  • Art lovers find much to see in France

    2010-04-12

Throughout the years, France has gained a reputation as one of the ultimate destinations for lovers. French food is considered among the best cuisines in the world, the scenic beaches of the Riviera are lauded for their beauty, and the capital city of Paris contains some of the most copied architecture to date. Even art lovers will find much to see in the country, whether residing in the more urbane northern portion of the country or amid the rustic charm of the south.

While in the aforementioned Paris, art fans will most likely be drawn to the storied halls of the Louvre, one of the world's largest art museums and home to a collection of more than 380,000 objects that include some of the most famous works in history, such as the Mona Lisa and Bathsheba At Her Bath.

Just outside of Paris in the village of Giverny, art lovers can explore the former home of noted impressionist Claude Monet. Each year tourists explore the artist's abode and witness the beauty that inspired his famous Séries of paintings.

Fans of post-impressionist Vincent Van Gogh might enjoy a trip to the southern city of Arles where they can visit the same Romanesque streets and structures that once inspired the Dutch artist while he lived in the city, as well as the hospital in which his famously removed ear was stitched up.
