• Plan a visit to Museum Island

    Vacationers who are headed to Berlin, Germany, this summer may want to check out one of the city's most popular tourist destinations - Museum Island.

    Located in the metropolis' Mitte district, the state property is home to five fabulous museums. Tourists who make a stop here will have a wonderful time exploring each facility.

    Visitors can check out the stunning Altes Museum (Old Museum), which holds the astounding Antikensammlug (antique collection). Guests will have the opportunity to admire thousands of artifacts from ancient Greece, Rome, Cyprus and many other countries. Highlights include sculptures, vases, terracottas, bronzes, sarcophagi, gems and metal work.

    When visiting the Neues Museum, or the New Museum, guests will get to view Egyptian, Prehistory and Early History exhibits. One of the most popular artifacts on display is the bust of Nefertiti.

    Art enthusiasts will want to go to the Alte Nationalgalerie (Old National Gallery), as it contains many paintings from Classicism and Romanticism eras and features artists, like Casper David Friedrich and Claude Monet.

    Tourists visiting the Bode Museum will find several pieces of Byzantine art, coins and medals. It also offers stunning sculptures from the Middle Ages and the early Renaissance. Travelers who explore the Pergamon Museum can discover a wide selection of Islamic art and a number of antiques from Italy, Greece and Turkey.
