• View some natural wonders on the island of Mauritius

Madagascar, off the coast of Africa, is a wonderful region to explore. However, baby boomers looking for somewhere even more exotic to visit can check out some of the smaller islands located around Madagascar's shores. Mauritius, for instance, may be only 20 miles across, but the rich culture and tradition found there adds to its bold atmosphere that makes it worth the journey to this remote island.

Although English is the official language, locals speak two Creole dialects, along with French. According to Frommer's, the island had been colonized by French and British occupants in recent history, which is where the European influences in speech and tradition come from.

While in Mauritius, travelers will not want to miss spending time on the sunny and sandy shorelines. The beach called Belle Mare is great for snorkeling in crystal clear waters, while guest can try out some kayaking and water skiing at Trou aux Biches.

Nature lovers may find paradise in the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden, reports Travel and Leisure. Some of the water lilies that grow in this 60-acre reserve have been known to be over four-and-a-half feet long.
