  • Tips for student travel around Europe

    2012-06-05

For young people planning student travel trips, backpacking around Europe is an unforgettable adventure. With a diverse blend of cultures and sights, Europe travel excursions by train can provide young people with an exciting range of activities, all within reach for even the most frugal traveler. Travelers can follow these tips to get the most out of their student travel adventure.

He who travels lightest, travels farthest

For some people, it can be tempting to bring everything but the kitchen sink when heading out on a Europe travel trip. However, only packing essentials can be a real benefit, especially when visiting several countries and traveling by public transportation.

Students should only bring what they cannot do without when backpacking around Europe. After all, lugging several suitcases around can not only be cumbersome, but also defeats the purpose of setting out on an adventure by rail. Young people embarking on student travel trips across Europe should invest in a large backpack with room for the essentials, and that can be worn comfortably.

However, while it can be beneficial to travel light, students should not make the mistake of being ill-prepared for different weather conditions and terrain, especially if they plan on visiting countries in Eastern Europe, where temperatures can be colder. Similarly, if young people intend to spend time in rural or more rugged environments, failing to bring appropriate footwear such as hiking boots can put a damper on the whole trip. Individuals planning a Europe travel adventure should think ahead about what they will need for each stage of their vacation.

    Plan for every eventuality

As with packing, figuring out what they will need in terms of money and travel documents is something else students will need to think about before they set off. Fortunately, most countries in Europe accept the Euro, reducing the need to change currency on multiple occasions.

However, carrying only cash can be risky. In the event that they misplace their wallet or are a victim of crime, students may find themselves in serious trouble. Traveler's checks are a much safer alternative, as they can be insured against loss or theft. Some Bureau de Changes will also offer a crossing service, meaning that traveler's checks can only be spent by individuals named on them, rendering them useless to thieves.

When traveling, students should have fun and relish every stage of their adventure. With some careful planning and a little common sense, a student travel excursion around Europe can be the trip of a lifetime.
