Although India was once under British colonial rule, UK travel adapters will not work in the country. Travelers will need to buy a separate India travel adapter if they plan on traveling within the country. Fortunately, these adapters will also work in several other popular travel destinations, like South Africa.
India's sockets look like three circles arranged in a triangular formation. However, the top circle is quite a bit larger than the bottom two. There are also other plugs, used for bigger appliances, that are in the same general shape but with much bigger holes and prongs.
These plugs are widely used in India and related countries like Nepal and Sri Lanka. They will also work as Africa travel adapters in many countries on the continent, like South Africa, Madagascar, Zimbabwe and Chad.
Finally, some Middle Eastern countries, like Lebanon and Qatar, have also adopted the wiring system. So those who engage in Africa and Asia travel should realize that India travel adapters are a great investment.
