    Coverage Questions

    • Please be careful when using frequent flyer miles to calculate your trip cost. Travel insurance typically covers the cash value of non-refundable travel expenses. In other words, money you can’t get back from your airline or other travel provider. Frequent flyer miles are not typically coverable as it’s difficult to determine their cash value.
    • Yes. Coverage can extend to non-family traveling companions as well. The cost is based on a per person trip cost, therefore each individual is covered separately. Only those listed as travelers on the enrollment form will be covered. All travelers listed on this plan must reside at the same address. If any travelers reside at a different address, a separate plan must be purchased.
    • We recommend MedEvac.
    • All plans include medical coverage.
    • It reimburses for forfeited, nonrefundable, unused payments or deposits if the traveler must cancel or interrupt their trip due to a covered reason.
    • The cost of travel insurance is based, in most cases, on the value of the trip and the age of the traveler. Typically, the cost is five to seven percent of the trip cost.
    • Many of Travel Guard's retail insurance programs include financial default coverage if the program is purchased within 15 days of making the initial trip deposit.
    • To boost travelers' confidence when traveling, Travel Guard has added LiveTravel® assistance, which provides 24-hour, "911" emergency travel agency-type services to all standard retail plans, in case a traveler has to change a flight or a hotel room. Travel Guard has also added assistance with emergency cash transfers, pre-trip consultation services (travel advisories, passport requirements, inoculation information, etc.), and live messaging, which will relay any e-mail or phone message to family, friends or business associates.
    • Often a traveler will lose nonrefundable deposits and prepayments that can add up to hundreds—or even thousands—of dollars. A comprehensive travel insurance plan through Travel Guard can provide trip cancellation coverage for the traveler's vacation investment—the insurance company reimburses the traveler for all pre-paid, nonrefundable expenses for a covered loss.
    • In addition to trip cancellation and interruption, the more comprehensive travel insurance plans available today may also cover emergency medical expenses emergency medical transportation, when ordered by a doctor, to the nearest adequate medical facility reimbursement for accommodations and expenses.
    • Travel insurance gives travelers coverage for unforeseen problems, from a cancelled flight to a serious illness—or in rare cases, even an act of terrorism or the financial default of a travel supplier. If an illness, accident, or other covered unforeseen circumstance forces a traveler to cancel or interrupt their plans, they face two major financial losses—money invested in nonrefundable pre-payments, and medical expenses that in many instances may not be covered by health insurance.
    • Pre-existing Medical Condition Exclusion would be applicable to a condition of a traveler, traveling companion or family member that was first diagnosed, had a change in diagnosis or required a change in medication during the 60, 90, or 180 day look back period (depending on plan purchased) immediately preceding and including the effective date of coverage. Some plans include a Pre-existing Medical Condition Exclusion Waiver when purchasing the plan within a specified time frame immediately following initial trip payment.
    • We offer a great option for travelers seeking medical coverage . It’s called the MedEvac Plan. MedEvac is available as an annual or per trip plan and is priced for individual travelers or families. The annual plan (not available to the residents of the States of NY or OR) provides coverage for all trips taken and completed within 365 days of the date the plan cost is paid (maximum trip length is 90 days and good for trips more than 100 miles away from home.)

Both the annual and per trip plan options provide the following coverage:
      • Emergency Evacuation to the Hospital of your Choice Coverage
      • Medical Expense Coverage
      • Optional Adventure Sports Coverage

A MedEvac plan also includes 24-Hour Worldwide Assistance Services* for help anywhere in the world including:
      • Medical and prescription assistance
      • Flight and hotel rebooking
      • Assistance with lost baggage and travel documents

*Non-insurance services are provided by Travel Guard.
    • Unfortunately, at this time, we do not have an optional upgrade to make the MedEvac Annual Plan primary for the Medical Expense coverage. Claims paid under the Medical Evacuation benefit are subject to plan provisions.

  • The Policy will contain reductions, limitations, exclusions and termination provisions. Full details of coverage are contained in the Policy. If there are conflicts between the information above and the Policy, the Policy will govern in all cases. Insurance underwritten by National Union Fire Insurance Company of Pittsburgh, Pa., with its principal place of business in New York, NY. Coverage may not be available in all states.
