Venture into the Irish countryside on a golf vacation
2010-07-26
Once the kids move out, couples may find themselves with a lot of time on their hands. This "empty nester" period is a great time to get out, explore the world, and rekindle the romance. The Irish countryside is a great destination for couples who want to take their time and explore the nooks and crannies of simple country life. However, its also a great spot for Dad to brush up on his golf game.
While the game may have been invented in Scotland, many in Ireland will claim that they perfected it. Looking at the area's famous courses, like Ballybunion, Old Head and Lahnich, some travelers might take that claim to be true. According to Travel Golf, prices at some of the top courses have come down considerably in recent years.
There are a host of options for lodging during a stay in Ireland. Many will be drawn to golf resorts, some of which feature spas, an addition that's sure to delight Mom. Other's may opt to go the more authentic route and book stays at a string of family-owned bed and breakfasts. The best way to approach is probably a mixture of strategies - a high-end resort for a few nights followed by some rest and relaxation at a small inn.
