• The "City of Music" comes alive

Leipzig, Germany, is known as the "city of music" because of its connections to classic masters like Johann Sebastian Bach and Felix Mendelssohn. But while the city is honoring its traditional roots, its vibrant nightlife and club scene also moves the city into the future.

According to The New York Times, it's a great time for classical music fans to visit Germany, as Leipzig is celebrating what would be Bach's 325th birthday with a host of events coinciding with the reopening of the redesigned Bach Museum.

However, there's plenty of modern music to be found in the city as well. The neighborhood of Connewitz is home to students and artists, and is quickly becoming a favorite site for acts like indie rockers Wolf Parade.

"There's an underground party or event in an abandoned factory or building every weekend here," Matthias Puppe, Pop Up Leipzig festival organizer, told the news source.

Leipzig is a great destination for Europe travel year-round, but music fans might want to plan it as one of numerous stops on a tour of Europe. There are a large amount of festivals and concerts taking place across the continent during the summer.
