Terengannu, Malaysia: Paradise on the coast
2010-06-30
The city of Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia has shifted its eye toward tourism as of late, with its luxury hotels catering to those interested in Asia travel. However, a fantastic beach vacation awaits for those who venture outside the city to the nearby state of Terengannu.
Terengannu is on the east coast of Malaysia in Southeast Asia. In recent years, it has become a popular destination for those looking for a laid-back vacation in the South Pacific. According to the New Zealand Herald, the beaches there boast lengthy coral reefs, white sand, crystal clear waters and an abundance of marine life, like sea turtles and baby sharks.
The coast is great, but travelers should be sure to take excursions to the islands off the coast for even more rest and relaxation. Redang Island is mostly home to several resorts, but those lucky enough to book here will be glad they did, as almost the entire island is a beach paradise.
The Perhentian Islands (there are two), are better suited for backpackers, hikers and adventure travelers looking to explore. These unspoiled and uninhabited islands are open to visitors, but are protected by the Malaysian government. They are known among Malaysians for both their excellent scuba and snorkeling locations and their beautiful beaches, which are likely to be empty on most days.
