Redesigned iPhone will help travelers keep in touch
2010-06-07

Apple revealed its fourth-generation iPhone on June 7, 2010, with a new feature that will make it easier for vacationers to stay in touch with family and friends back home.
The smartphone has already proven its usefulness for world travelers, with a wide range of applications designed to give vacationers access to information at the push of a button - essentially a pocket-sized travel agent and tour guide.
The new design features a small camera above the main screen. The iPhone is already optimized for shooting video, but with the addition of a front-facing camera, users can essentially turn their phone into a webcam. The phone still features a 5.0 megapixel camera on the back, now with an LED flash, which is great for quick snapshots.
The free videoconferencing application Skype is already popular with international travelers, and the company has announced plans to support the new iPhone. Beyond the normal communication abilities, the phone's portable size means that vacationers will now be able to stream live video of their exploits to their family and friends back home.
Increasingly, travelers may opt to leave bulky laptops at home and use their phone for their connectivity needs.
