Much to see and eat in Amsterdam this June
2010-04-01
As the capital of the Netherlands, Amsterdam serves as a central hub for arts, culture and creativity for the entire region. While there is much to see and do on the typical day in this cosmopolitan city, a number of events in June will provide travelers with a chance to sample the tastes and sights of the European city.
In late June the city will transform into the country's culinary capital as the Taste of Amsterdam food festival kicks off in earnest on the 25th. This four-day celebration of all things edible incorporates several local and international chefs from some of the greatest restaurants in the city. The festival is an open-air affair, allowing visitors the opportunity to enjoy Amsterdam's epic scenery while sampling culinary concoctions not often found outside of the region.
For travelers seeking a more dramatic experience this summer, the Vondelpark Open Air Theater is just the ticket. Acting troupes representing divergent styles ranging from cabaret to Shakespeare will descend upon the park, staging free performances near the city's famous fountains.
