Milan: a city of fashion and history

Those interested in fashion know that the industry's capital is Milan, Italy. That won't be more apparent than during Fashion Week, which starts June 19th in the famous city.
Don't be confused: Fashion Week 2011 actually takes place in 2010, where the trends for 2011 will be previewed and dissected. Milan during Fashion Week is an exciting time, even for those who aren't interested in the latest garments.
Some of the events are exclusive, but many of the collections will be opened to the public later in the week.
The heart of the city is definitely Piazza Duomo, or the cathedral square. Fashionistas will find all the famous brands represented in advertisements and shops around the square, and the plaza usually plays host to any events going on in the city.
Its also the site of the Duomo, a massive and gorgeous cathedral which has existed in some form since the Dark Ages. The streets leading up to the church are closed to vehicles, so this area has become the center for shopping, restaurants, and more.
Milan is a city that mixes the current and trendy with the ancient and historical. It's the perfect destination for those interested in fashion or history.
