Indian nightlife proves a perfect spot for dance fans

When one thinks of a travel destination with a bustling night life, India is not typically at the top of that list. Yet a new report appearing in Reuters shows that dance clubs and DJ culture are fast becoming big business in many of the country's urban centers.
In major cities like Delhi and Mumbai, nightclubs and upscale hotels have been popping up everywhere, and the world of electronic music has taken notice as several of the biggest names in the industry have been booked in the region over the past several months.
Big name international artists like DJ Tiesto and Paul Oakenfold have toured the region many times, and both have graced the stage at India's top dance and electronic music festival, Sunburn. The annual festival, which takes place in the backpackers' haven Goa, has grown substantially in its 3-year existence from 6,000 attendees in 2007 to more than 20,000 in 2009.
Also helping the nightlife grow is the Indian film industry, as Bollywood producers have embraced modern dance music for their unique brand of musicals.
"Youth culture in India is very receptive to new stuff, especially Western music," says Toni Tambourine, a PR manager for a British record label. "It's an untapped market with huge, huge potential."
