Immersion in Cornwall culture
2010-07-02

Europe travel affords tourists the opportunity to experience a broad range of cultures in a relatively small area. Sometimes, cultures can vary even within a country. For example, while the city of Cornwall is considered to be part of the United Kingdom, it has a distinct identity that is all its own.
This city on the southwestern tip of England is a great destination for travelers of all types. Situated on the Atlantic Ocean, Cornwall boasts 300 public beaches, as well as Land's End, the furthest west and southern point of England.
Cornwall is also home to some beautiful gardens and stunning architecture. Glendurgan Gardens and the Lost Gardens of Heligan have been delighting travelers for years. There are also a few things unique to Cornwall, like the Minack Theatre, an outdoor amphitheatre carved into a cliff, as well as the Eden Project, two huge biodomes that house a variety of exotic plants.
But the best part about the city might be interacting with the locals and learning about Cornwall's storied history. In recent years, a strong nationalist movement has arisen in the area, which includes a resurgence in native Cornish speakers. In fact, many young people consider themselves Cornish rather than British. All in all, the city makes for a nice change of pace compared to the rest of Britain.
