Through a series of partnerships and travel deals, the Australian government is seeking to make the Down Under the next big tourist destination for people from 18-30 years old.
The Australian minister of tourism, Martin Ferguson has announced an additional $9 million in funding to cooperative marketing initiatives, calling on Australia's tourism industry to unite in an effort to increase international and domestic travel.
A partnership with student travel agency STA will provide round trip flights from LAX to Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane for under $700 for a limited time, while Visit Australia is offering a one year work and holiday visa, two nights' accommodations, and more for travelers seeking to work and live abroad.
"The ability to go to Australia for up to 12 months, get a job and experience our unique and diverse adventures is very appealing to many young Americans. And what could be a more enjoyable way of adding to one's resume?" says Vice President of Tourism Australia Daryl Hudson.
Other discounted travel packages being offered include surfing tours in Melbourne, diving off the Great Barrier Reef and exploring the Australian outback.
