• A peaceful option in London

    2010-09-03

Travelers who have visited London on Europe travel probably have a picture of the city consistent with its status as a sprawling urban metropolis. Yet London is so large that there are many areas off the beaten path that visitors would do well to pay a visit to while spending time in the city.

According to the New York Times, one of those districts is East London. Home to a host of eclectic up-and-coming neighborhoods, East London will be sure to delight travelers with its mix of great eateries, picturesque streets and diverse markets.

Visitors to this area might want to check out the stretch known as Columbia Road, which has paid host to a famous open-air flower market dating back to the 19th century. While the flowers are still sold on Sundays, travelers will be more than satisfied by the boutique shops, restaurants and hotels that are open during the rest of the week.

In neighborhoods like Towpath, Bethnal Green and Shoreditch, travelers will find a similar aesthetic and attitude. While the bright lights and star attractions might be reserved for downtown London, the quiet side streets of the city's east side provide a nice change of pace for travelers.
