• Watch Robots battle in San Francisco at the RoboGames

Anyone can go see a soccer or football game while traveling, but a lucky few who venture to San Francisco this June will be able to attend a whole different kind of sporting event. The RoboGames will feature fans of robotics from all over the word competing in a series of interesting and unusual events that can be exciting to guests of all ages to experience.

Since 2004, the RoboGames has drawn competitors from all over the world to the city to feature their amazing skills and talents in this unique hobby, according to the official website. Nowadays there are 70 different events for teams and individuals to choose from that display a variety to tricks and features. Most players will design their robot to perform tasks that are specialized for a specific part of the tournament.

Depending on what attendees are interested in, they may spectate from dozens of events happening during the three-day games. The machines will be entered in events such as weightlifting, bartending, hockey playing and time trials. Cash prizes are awarded to the winner, as well as bragging rights for being the ultimate builder.

One of the most popular events that spectators like to watch is the physical battle event. Teams build their robots to withstand bumps, bashes and weaponry to outlast their opponents in a fight to the death, or malfunction. The area is which the gadgets compete is bullet-proof, since flying metal and sparks tend to occur during the thrilling combat.

Little ones may favor the dance competition. Robots of all shapes and sizes strut their stuff and perform different moves, from push-ups to break dancing. All are controlled by competitors who have often created elaborate switchboards filled with levers, buttons and more.

All types of robot builders take part in the games, as the entry fees are kept low so that school groups and amateurs can participate. Travelers may see a variety of talents because of this factor, or even witness an emerging star debut their robot for the first time.

The RoboGames can be a great addition to an adventure travel itinerary for families and couples to enjoy. San Francisco is a stunning destination, and visitors can explore its scenic shorelines, iconic attractions and, of course, attend the robotic event.
