2011-03-23
One of the best museums in Manchester, England, is the Manchester Art Gallery, located in City Center. The facility has several highlights, which include paintings from brilliant artists, such as Thomas Gainsborough, Jan Van de Cappelle, Sir Edwin Landseer, Joshua Reynolds and many more.
The museum offers several temporary exhibits as well. Travelers who plan on visiting the facility before June 5 can check out the "Anish Kapoor: Flashback" display. Guests will get to see some of the British sculpture's stunning early pieces and many of his incredible recent works.
Another amazing exhibit tourists may want to see is "Tailor, Singer, Striker, Dandy: New work by Lubaina Himid." Himid selected pieces from the African textile collection and reinterpreted them with new materials that showcased her view of contemporary and histrionic male identity.
Guests can head to the "Exporting Beauty: Pilkington's Pottery and Tiles" display as well. The exhibit showcases more than 100 pots and tiles that were created by Pilkington's Lancastrian pottery company, which were made between 1893 and 1938.
The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
