Video chat helps families stay connected

One of the best parts of vacations is sharing all the memories and pictures with family and friends back home upon return. But as technology grows, it's becoming easier to do so in real time.
If families choose to bring a laptop, they have access to the free video chat program Skype, which will allow them to tell the folks back home all about their trip as it's happening. Many smartphones now feature Skype as well, and the iPhone 4 has a front-facing camera that allows for video chat and live streaming video.
Inventive vacationers could even allow the family back home to partake in the adventure by streaming their vacation movies live over the internet to friends and family. Grandma and grandpa might be interested in seeing the kids play with dolphins, for example.
This also helps families stay connected for safety reasons. It can be a comfort knowing that someone back home has updated knowledge of a family's whereabouts. With the prevalence of GPS apps, they can know exactly where everyone is (and parents can use the apps too if they want to split up for a bit).
With these travel gadgets, families can stay safe and share their experiences with friends and family back home.
