Soccer has swept the planet into and is a phenomenon in many countries. Travelers who wish to catch a match abroad can do so at almost any corner of the globe. Lonely Planet recently listed some of the best stadiums for soccer games while on vacation.
The stadium for Manchester United's home games in England is a legendary place where historical players have graced the field for generations. Called Old Trafford, the grounds are adorned with statues of famous soccer greats such as Denis Law and Bobby Charlton. Surrounding the stadium at any given time are hordes of fans that are visiting the souvenir megastore or having lunch on the promenade.
AC Milan and Internazionale call Stadio Giuseppe its home in Italy. Affectionately called "San Siro" by locals, both rival teams can be seen here during the regular season with a proud and vibrant following watching every kick. The facility includes an adjoining museum that can be perused before or after game day.
In South America, The Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil should not be missed by any soccer enthusiast. Pele, along with other Brazilian celebrities in the sport, play on this field, which is known to pack in 200,000 spectators at once.
