• Survey finds trends among luxury cruisers

    2012-06-08

When cruisers do not have a limit on their budgets, they are often looking to experience unique and luxurious experiences aboard ships and at exotic destinations. A recent survey by Virtuoso surveyed affluent travelers to find out what they deemed most important, what they would like to see more aboard their getaway ship and where they hope to journey to in the near future.

Cruisers hope to get the most for their money

Of those surveyed, many travelers are not canceling their plans or changing their itineraries due to uncertain economic times. In fact, more people are demanding improved and innovative offerings when they are choosing their next trip, whether it be stylish furnishings in their cabins or new activities to try on board. While many guests hope to indulge in superior services, they still would like to get the most for their dollar and know they are getting value for the cruises they purchase. What travelers hope to gain from their getaways the most is personal enrichment, relaxation and being able to experience new locales.

Among the current trends that the survey uncovered, river cruises are projected to be popular for more intimate trips and excursions on smaller boats. Luxury cruises also made the top five when it comes to what travelers are planning to do for their vacations, alongside adventure travel excursions and family reunion travel plans.

Some of the destinations travelers wish to visit on their future cruises included Maui, South Africa, New York City and Australia.

    New and extravagant cruising amenities

In order to cater to this demographics' desire for luxury travel excursions, many cruise companies are offering over-the-top amenities and services on their ships. For instance, Royal Caribbean's ship, the Oasis of the Seas, is one of the world's largest passenger vessels and has attractions like an ice skating rink, a rock climbing wall and even vintage Rolls Royce cars in the massive lobby, reports Boater Exam.

Those who want to stretch out can book a cruise on Cunard's Queen Mary 2. This ship has several apartment-like guest suites, complete with dining tables, spiraling staircases and private gymnasiums.

The Italian carrier MSC Cruises' fleet boasts the Splendida, embedded with hundreds of thousands of crystals in the staircases and decor. As a special perk, passengers may borrow state-of-the-art laptop at any time with free Wi-Fi to use in their rooms and anywhere on the ship.
