• See vast diversity in the small country of French Guiana

The country of French Guiana may sometimes be overlooked since it borders the giant country of Brazil, but travelers who wish to explore this nation may find that some wonderful cultural experiences await them on their next vacation. As a French colony, the country boasts South American traditions infused with French style.

There is a space center near Cayenne, the capital, which may make for an interesting excursion for those interested in aeronautics, the Brendan's Adventures blog reports. France uses this base to launch several satellites a year, and tours are available to the public on non-launch days.

Also near the capital city is a pretty beach for aquatic activities and great waves. According to Lonely Planet, travelers who enjoy surfing, kayaking or kitesurfing may check out Plage Montjoly. A short distance from the waterfront is Fort Diamant, which can be worth a side trip for hiking enthusiasts.

In the 1970s, people from Laos fled unrest and settled in French Guiana, forming a lovely little village called Cacao. Travelers can stroll though this area to see stunning rivers and vegetable farms.
