Sample the perfect hotdog at Japadog in Vancouver
2010-01-22
With thousands of tourists expected to pour into Vancouver in preparation for
the 2010 Winter Olympics, getting a reservation at a local bar or restaurant may
be exceedingly difficult over the next several weeks. However, travelers in need
of sustenance need not worry, as a local hotdog stand has gained international
acclaim in its own right.
The Japadog stand on the corner of Burrard
Street and Smithe Street presents unique concoctions that are less American
hotdog and more a sampling of traditional Japanese street food.
First, a
Japadog patron must choose their frank from a selection of meats ranging from
traditional beef and bratwurst to jalapeno cheese dogs and smoked turkey. A
vegetarian dog is also available.
Once a diner has selected their dogs,
they must choose from seven traditional Japanese styles including the Okonomi
dog - which recreates Japanese street pizza through use of bonito flakes, fried
cabbage and the special Okonomiyaki sauce - and the Edamame dog - which stuffs
sliced bratwurst full of authentic Japanese snap peas.
The chain has
garnered international acclaim for its unique creations, even garnering praise
from celebrities like Steven Seagal, Ice Cube and Anthony Bourdain, according to
Yelp.com.
