Olympic travelers looking for laughs might enjoy Vancouver's TheaterSports League
2010-01-20
The 2010 Winter Olympics provides more than enough events to keep international
travelers busy during the entirety of its month-long run. Most visitors,
however, won't be able to visit every competition, instead seeking entertainment
from other sources. For tourists looking to laugh between Olympic events,
Vancouver's TheatreSports League provides both a healthy dose of laughter and
competition.
The VTSL, which recently relocated to Vancouver's shopping
haven at Granville Island, is an improvisational troupe that performs customized
comedy for up to 10 shows a week.
The theater troupe boasts a number of
programs ranging from the aptly named Stretch - in which comedians run with a
single idea for the duration of the show - to the fiercely competitive Ultimate
Improv Championship - where two teams of improvisers battle it out to be named
top performer of the night.
After hours, the show continues with the
Late Night Mixer, a relaxed party atmosphere that is half cocktail lounge party
and part comedic social, according to their website.
