If travelers have been flying for a number of years to reach their vacation destinations, they most likely have seen many changes within the industry when it comes to aircraft design, amenities and rates. More than ever, individuals are using planes to get to where they want to go for both business and leisure trips, according to a recent survey conducted by TripAdvisor. No matter what has changed and evolved throughout aviation, nothing has deterred travelers from taking flights, whether it be for a short weekend getaway or a big adventure travel excursion abroad.
More than 1,000 passengers were asked a series of questions to find out the biggest differences in travel today. One of the obvious innovations has been the use of technology, which has altered the way many track their flights, book tickets and use their time on the plane. Roughly half of travelers surveyed said they now check flight information on their smartphones, and an additional 30 percent check in for their flight on mobile devices.
Technology reigns as most desired amenity
However, many passengers are confused as to why they must turn off these phones, tablets and computers during takeoff and landing. About 60 percent answered that they would like to see rules changed so they can use their electronics throughout the entire journey. Many are hoping for more flights to add wireless internet in the future, and more than 25 percent said they may even switch carriers just to have internet access.
Comfortable flights are essential
Besides wireless, passengers say legroom and comfortable seats are essential when taking airborne trips. More than one-third are even willing to pay a little extra so they can stretch out on long-haul routes.
Travelers planning future vacations who will be taking flights may want to check up on the ever-changing policies many airlines announce in regards to things like wireless internet, rate reductions and newly added routes. As innovative services and amenities are constantly being introduced, many companies will be competing to keep their customers, so shopping around could be a great option for those who value luxury or are on a budget.
