• New Zealand’s wide open spaces are great for road tripping

    2011-07-07

The seemingly endless expanse of New Zealand offers a perfect opportunity to hit the road. Backdrops of craggy mountain peaks and crystal clear lakes provide a memorable landscape for a traveler’s next adventurous journey on four wheels. The Los Angeles Times recently ranked some of the best places to see along the way.

If used to American ways, driving on the left side of the road may be a little difficult at first. Luckily, the country is full of long, straight highways, perfect for practice, such as in Arthur’s Pass National Park. The countless sheep that pervade the countryside , however, may prove to be a special kind of obstacle.

Wine connoisseurs can get their fill of exclusive Pinot Noirs and Rieslings in the Central Otago region. These vineyards do not do much exporting, so sampling their talents may be a totally unique experience to the area.

Visitors can pull up next to the famous White Lady food truck when arriving in Auckland. According to Lonely Planet, the notoriously greasy burgers sold here are legendary with their juiciness and satisfying size, especially after a late night out.
