Must have iPhone apps for the technological traveler
2010-02-17
This year Apple expects to sell roughly 31.4 million iPhones throughout the
world and first time owners will want to make the most of their new gadget by
loading it up with the latest and greatest apps from the iTunes store. Depending
on one's interests, there are a number of apps to suit one's lifestyle - but for
avid travelers, some apps are essential.
For international travelers who
make friends wherever they go, the free Skype app is a must to avoid hearty
international dialing charges. Visitors in a foreign land may also enjoy the
Babelingo app, a language translator that specializes in the most common phrases
used by travelers and offers language visualizations in case one needs to show
something to the person with whom they're trying to communicate.
When
visiting a city for the first time it's important to study one's surroundings
and get a feel for where local restaurants, nightlife and shopping may be. Or
one can use the Yelp! and Around Me apps that list and rank businesses within a
particular area.
Of course for more immediate needs, travelers may also
want to invest in the Whizzer app which can quickly locate the nearest public
restroom.
