With incredible diversity in landscapes, the opportunity for adventure travel in the United States is almost without equal. This is certainly the case at Yellowstone National Park, which is one of the best destinations for hiking in the country. Given the park's size (it's located in three different states) it can be difficult to choose which path to take, but experts say that the Mount Washburn trail stands above the rest, CNN Travel notes.
The impressive wildlife on display is one of the biggest reasons to hike Mount Washburn. For instance, in the drive there you'll probably be able to spot everything from elk, bison and even black and grizzly bears.
However, once you've stepped foot on the trail, the natural scenery is what will leave a lasting impression. Along the six-mile hike to the summit, you'll make your way through many wildflower gardens, which are usually at their peak during July and August.
While the hike itself is certainly a memorable experience, the view from the top is hard to beat. At more than 10,000 feet, Mount Washburn's panorama is truly breathtaking. For an even better view, climb to the observation deck located at the top of the small visitor's center.
