More travelers are flying to Heathrow Airport
2011-02-24
The British Airports Authority reported that London Heathrow Aiport experienced a 3.8 percent increase of travelers in January when compared to the same time in 2010, according to Travel Daily News.
This also marks the most travelers Heathrow has seen since 2006. The high numbers could be a result of the airport recovering from a large amount of snow that occurred in November and December of last year, the news source reported.
"The figures from January show that Heathrow recorded a 4.6% increase in passenger numbers compared to January 2010, bringing the total number of travelers to just over 5 million," Alistair Daly, marketing director of On the Beach, told the news provider. "Last year was very difficult for both the aviation industry and travelers, due to severe weather conditions such as the Icelandic volcanic ash cloud and the heavy snow just before Christmas."
Both domestic and European traffic improved, increasing 8.3 percent and 2.7 percent respectively. Flights to North America were 3.2 percent higher when compared to the same time last year as well.
