• More Australians and foreign travelers cruising Down Under

    2012-06-15

When travelers head to far away locales, one of the best ways to experience new destinations could be by taking a cruise. Many individuals are choosing this option, as rates for cruises have been going down and cruising offers a convenient way to see new places while indulging in the comforts of a large ship.

According to recent cruise news released by Australian Hospitality magazine, many residents Down Under and foreign passengers are taking advantage of the low rates and trying some exotic trips by ship that embark from Australia. Cruise journeys throughout the country increased by more than 23 percent between 2006 to 2011. Although all types of cruises are on the rise, river expeditions through Australia are becoming a favorable choice, with thousands taking to the waterways every year.

One of the most popular ports in Australia is Sydney, which boasts more than 150 ships in dock during the peak season. From this vibrant metropolis, cruises can head to a variety of destinations, whether it be one of the exotic islands in the South Pacific or simply heading to other parts of Australia along the coast. Many also choose to check out the attractions and entertainment options in Sydney before taking their trip, which allows passengers to explore various locales even before boarding the ship.

Several liners offer travelers cruise itineraries in and around Australia, including Holland America, Princess and Royal Caribbean. Not only will these trips take tourists to large cities, but several itineraries include passes through the country's scenic rural landscapes. Heading north to New Zealand from ports in Australia is another option many travelers choose, where they can venture to places Like Auckland and take trips through the Fjordland National Park.

Travelers heading to Australia for a cruise may wish to do so during their summer season, which is opposite of that in the Northern Hemisphere, around the holiday season of November through February. While back home cities are often buried under snow, tourists taking cruises Down Under can instead soak up the sun and explore some new locales on their adventure travel excursion by ship. This can be a great way to see many parts of this vast region while enjoying the wallet-friendly rates of Australian cruises.
