• Make plans for Vancouver Island on vacation

    2012-02-23

Canada is one of those countries that is filled with hidden gems and incredible cities that travelers love to explore. One such region is Vancouver Island, which boasts some wonderful scenery, historical landmarks and a friendly atmosphere that is sure to please baby boomers on their next getaway.

Although the city of Victoria is the big draw to the island, there are plenty of other things to see and do in the surrounding regions. According to Fodor's, the Montague Harbour Marina is worth checking out, as guests are encouraged to rent a kayak or moped to admire the scenic beauty of the shorelines and docked vessels.

In the town of Duncan, travelers can get up close and personal with the local fowl at the Pacific Northwest Raptors facility. This nature complex is home to a variety of species, including hawks and eagles, that guests are welcomed to interact with and see in action.

Scuba divers can get their gear on and make plans to visit some of Vancouver Island's best dive sites, found in Nanaimo, reports Lonely Planet. Seeing the location where the sunken HMCS Saskatchewan shipwreck is may be one of the best places to go.
