Learn the history of the River Kwai in Thailand
2010-09-07
One of the great boons of Asia travel is learning all about the history and culture of places that are so unlike America. Thailand is one country where travelers will definitely want to take their time and learn all about the unique events that took place in the country.
While travelers will undoubtedly be drawn to the magnificent city of Bangkok, traveling outside the city limits will allow them to experience more of the country's history. A good example of that is the Bridge on the River Kwai, not far outside the city. This famous site, immortalized in both literature and film, draws tons of travelers year after year.
Travelers may wish to plan their trip around the period of November 24th to December 5th, as these weeks will see some special events taking place on the river. Museums dedicated to the history of the site will open new exhibits, while cultural performances, vintage train rides and a spectacular light show bring the river region to life.
Although visitors may be familiar with the story of the region from the book and film, both took some artistic liberties with the full truth. A trip to the region can give those who love culture and history a rare perspective on Thailand's role in the second World War.
