Hit the slopes in China
2010-09-29
Ski-crazed travelers likely have their favorite spots around the world, whether its slopes in the European Alps, Canada or the U.S. Yet there are plenty of ski resorts located around the world for travelers to enjoy, and a few regions may be overlooked.
Snow sports, for example, aren't often thought of as China's strong suit, but the country's northeastern province, just south of Mongolia, boasts plenty of skiable terrain. Several resorts have already taken care of this, setting up shop around the town of Yabuli, where multiple mountains offer travelers tons of trails.
Many English speakers may see the language and culture barrier as a big hurdle to booking a ski trip in China, but the New Zealand Herald recently revealed that Club Med has built a ski resort in Yabuli. The international resume of the brand means that most Americans will likely feel right at home at the resort.
Set to open next month, the new resort will boast plenty of non-ski activities, like a swimming pool, full spa, multiple bars and restaurants and plenty of activities to keep children busy. The skiing and snowboarding aspect will include the usual amenities as well as a few extra perks, like heated chairlifts providing a toasty ride to the top of the mountain.
