Glittering amber shores beckon tourists in the Dominican Republic

With its beautiful coastlines and tropical flora and fauna, the Dominican Republic is a great example of the classic island getaway. The northern coast especially has scenic landscapes of mountainous peaks enveloping the golden sands on the shores.
Kite surfing is the hot new sport taking over some areas of the Dominican Republic, and now even one of the beaches has been named after the activity, reports Fodor’s. Kite surfing involves a regular board and a rider who uses a giant cloth sail, steered by strings or cables. All the action can be seen on Kite Beach.
Amber, which is fossilized pine resin that can date back millions of years, is a large export in the region. Historical exhibits about the semi-precious stone can be explored at the Dominican Amber Museum. Several pieces of jewelry and souvenirs are sold here as well.
Many visitors will not leave the northern town of Sosua without trying the Morua Mai restaurant. According to Frommer’s, the shrimp prepared with fresh vegetables in a spicy tomato sauce may have travelers ordering a second helping.
