Any trip to Scotland practically requires you to visit the capital city of Edinburgh, and while the historic destination certainly has plenty to offer, its appeal may sometimes overshadow the larger city of Glasgow. However, Glasgow is among the most appealing cities not only in Scotland but in all of Europe. Its laid back atmosphere coupled with its thriving cultural scene help create a truly unique atmosphere that has something to offer to everyone, and according to The Huffington Post, there are certain areas of Glasgow that should not be missed.

Glasgow has a rich sense of culture in nearly every respect, but this is especially true when it comes to music. Perhaps most appealing is the fact that while you can hear traditional Scottish music around seemingly every corner, there is plenty of modern influence, so there is much more than just bagpipes. Not only that, but there are a large number of interesting venues that add another element to the music scene. Some of the best include King Tut's Wah Wah Hut, which draws inspiration from New York City, and Barrowland Ballroom, which dates back to the 1930s.
Not all unusual buildings have to be old to be worth a visit, and Glasgow is certainly testament to that. For instance, the city's Cineworld - a movie theater opened in 2001 - holds the distinction of being the largest such theater in the world. It stands over 200 feet tall and contains 18 screens on nine levels. Given its unique design, Cineworld attracts well over 1 million visitors every year, which makes it the busiest movie theater in the U.K.
Of course, there are other compelling works besides the theater. The expansive Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum - built in 1901 - is one such piece, as is the majestic Glasgow City Chambers, which serves as the main building for the University of Glasgow.
Few countries have cuisine quite like Scotland, and there are plenty of great restaurants to check out. According to HuffPost, one of the best is Doocot, which is situated on the fifth floor of a building known as The Lighthouse - the city's center for architecture and design. Aside from a delicious menu, the restaurant offers an impressive view of the city below.
