While some couples may struggle to deal with their children leaving the house, middle age affords many people the chance to travel and take on experiences they may not have had time to do before. For empty nesters planning a vacation, the region of Galicia in Spain should merit strong consideration.
Spanish vacations are a great way for travelers to relax and experience a new culture. Many travelers may not be aware, however, that many regions within Spain have their own unique culture and identity. The area of Galicia, located in the northwest corner, is one such area.
Galicia is just north of Portugal and features a moist climate similar to Spain's neighbor. That position also means that Galicia has access to plenty of beautiful coast and the delicious seafood that comes with being right by the sea.
Empty nesters will definitely want to take their time exploring this region of Spain, as it will allow them to sample all the local delicacies. Among the many tapas that travelers should be sure to partake in are gooseneck barnacles. In addition, no trip to the region is complete without a sampling of "aguardiente," a local alcoholic beverage sweetened with natural flavors.
It may not be the most well known European travel destination, but Galicia is sure not to disappoint those who take the time to explore.
