• Frommer's reveals its top destinations of 2011

    2010-12-14

With so many amazing destinations around the world to choose from for your next vacation, it can be quite difficult to select the perfect one. Luckily, the folks at Frommer's, which includes editors, authors and travel experts, recently unveiled their top vacation spots for 2011.

Doha, Qatar tops the list this year thanks to its recent win for the bid to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Tourists can find plenty of beautiful beaches in this area, as well as a number of different cultural activities. Makre sure to check out the Doha-Tribeca Film Festival while in town, as well as the Museum of Islamic Art.

For those looking to visit eastern Asia, Hokkaido is an interesting destination that is quite the opposite of its urban counterparts. As the northernmost island in Japan, travelers can see expansive views of natural scenery and coastal panorama. Looking out into the distance, visitors will be able to see alpine flowers, or serene icescapes in the cooler months.

Frommer's also suggests that travelers visit Stockholm, Sweden, if they are looking to head to Europe. The panel attributes much of its recent popularity to the bestselling Stieg Larsson novels. Attractions in the Swedish capital include the Royal Palace and the medieval district of Gamla Stan.
