• Family travel destinations that will leave a lasting impression

Family travel offers some of the most rewarding experiences children can have. Getting to see the United States from a new perspective is a great way for youngsters to understand the stunning diversity the country offers. While almost all journeys have something unique to give travelers, there are certain trips in particular that will leave a long-lasting impression on the kids, according to CNN Travel.

    Big Sur, California
California is home to some of the most breathtaking natural views the country has to offer, and nowhere is that more true than at Big Sur. The name is given to a section of central California's coastline, and driving through some of its most beautiful spots has been a longtime United States travel tradition. Most experts recommend making the drive by starting at San Francisco and stopping at a few highlights along the way. Bixby Creek Bridge, which is one of the tallest single-span bridges in the world, offers unrivaled views of the Pacific Ocean. Other highlights include the Point Sur Lighthouse and McWay Falls.

"It really teaches children that if you really love an area, you can protect it," Keith Bellows, editor-in-chief of National Geographic Traveler magazine, told CNN. "Most of that coastline is protected, and it shows you what happens when you don't screw it up."

    Library of Congress, Washington, D.C.
Not all compelling family travel destinations have to be natural landmarks - they can also be educational. That is certainly the case of the Library of Congress, which is home to an estimated 128 million items. According to CNN, it adds approximately 10,000 new pieces every day, so even if you make a visit there several times you can experience something new. The library has information on everything from American history to music to sports, so it's easy to get lost for a day in this national treasure.

    Grand Canyon
Much like Big Sur, the Grand Canyon is a natural highlight that you need to see to believe. Few other landmarks in the world offer such impeccable evidence of the power of nature. The expansive park offers beautiful views regardless of where you go, and whether you and your family are admiring the picturesque landscape or the sheer depth and enormity of the canyon, the trip will surely leave a lasting impression.
