Enjoy skiing in Are, Sweden
2010-08-31
The resort town of Are in the northern region of Sweden is a famous skiing destination that serious winter sports fans should strongly consider for their Europe travel.
The town of Are is all about skiing. There are over 40 lifts and 100 slopes on the mountain, which is comprised of four separate areas. Travelers can purchase one ski pass which will allow them to ski anywhere they want.
They can also ski nearly any time they want. Although the snow does melt in Are eventually, the ski season is extended due to the climate. In addition, the mountain has a fantastic floodlight system which makes night skiing not only possible, but preferable, considering the beauty of the area at night.
After a day on the slopes, travelers should ask around about Tannforsen, a large waterfall that actually freezes in winter, making for an unbelievable photo opportunity.
Even in the summer, Are is worth a trip. The lifts are still open, taking people to the top of the mountain and allowing for beautiful panoramic views. The slopes also transform into a zipline park, so travelers can fly down the mountain in a slightly different, but still fun, way.
