  • Enjoy some of the best beaches in the world this summer

    2012-03-23

As the weather begin to warm, many travelers may start exploring the possibilities of visiting some great beaches. According to the travel blog Away, there are 10 scenic beaches throughout the U.S. that have been named among the best to visit for family travel excursions and fun summer getaways.

California is home to two of the beaches on the list, with one on Santa Monica and the other near Carmel. The former has miles of sand and cement pathways so travelers can strap on their in-line skates or bring their bikes for a ride along the beach. In Carmel, the Point Lobos State Reserve has more of a rugged coastline, but provides guests with an up close encounter with the local wildlife, including marine birds, sea lions, deer and dolphins.

Along the East Coast, there are several other beaches with their own unique features and offerings. In Acadia national park, visitors often go to the shore right before the sunrise to see a colorful show over the ocean. More active pursuits can be indulged in at the Cape Hatteras National Seashore in North Carolina, which has plenty of opportunities for sea kayaking, fishing or collecting a myriad of shells.

The U.S. is not the only country to have incredible beaches. In fact, travelers can explore countless shores throughout the world that offer just as much fun in the sun. Heading to St Bart's in the Caribbean, for instance, could be a great way to experience sandy coastlines and enjoy an exotic adventure travel trip. National Geographic reports that there more 20 beaches to encounter along the island's waterfronts, many of which are secluded and offer the ultimate atmosphere for relaxation.

On the other side of the world is Fraser Island, off the coast of Queensland, Australia. This area has been named a UNESCO World heritage site and boasts more than 600 square miles of space for sun bathing, swimming and admiring the natural flora and fauna.

No matter where travelers decide to roam when choose their new favorite destination, beaches are classic destinations to visit on many people's getaway itineraries. Now may be the time to check out some new locales to experience the different features of these sandy shores worldwide.
