• Empty nesters should explore Tuscany

    2010-07-20

After the kids have moved away, couples may find themselves with a sudden wealth of time on their hands. Many use this opportunity to travel to places that they never could visit while the children were young. The extra time also allows empty nesters to head to places that demand a few weeks to be seen properly, like the Tuscany region in Italy.

Travelers to Tuscany should be sure to take a few tours of the area's famous vineyards, complete with wine tastings. They'll also want to research the regions's most romantic restaurants, like Gambero Rosso, which was awarded two prestigious Michelin stars.

There are a number of cities that couples should visit in Tuscany, some of which demand multiple days. Florence is one such town, where visitors should be sure to check out Michaelangelo's David. Its also likely that they will want to spend extra days in the beautiful Siena and Pisa, where they can view the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

But more than anything, Tuscany encourages leisurely and romantic travel. If sipping on world-class wines, sampling prosciutto and cheese while looking at some of the best art and architecture the world has to offer sounds appealing, empty nesters should book their next European vacation in Tuscany.
