Culture and adventure in Sigatoka, Fiji
2010-08-31
The island of Fiji is best known as a beach and resort getaway, and those who travel to the island will definitely be drawn to the white sands and crystal blue waters. Yet travelers shouldn't shun the other aspects of the island, as Fiji is also a great place for adventure and culture.
According to the New Zealand Herald, travelers can experience both in one package when they take a Sigatoka River safari. This tour allows travelers to hop in a high-powered jet boat that will give thrillseekers more than their share of adrenaline pumping. As the boat screams down the river and winds around curves, visitors will either be screaming for more or screaming to go back to the beach.
But the jet boat ride isn't there for the sole purpose of nausea. The safari includes a cultural immersion tour, where guests spend some time in a traditional Fiji village. Here, villagers share a meal with guests while teaching them songs and traditional dances.
The trip provides a glimpse of a part of Fiji that travelers usually don't see while relaxing on the beach. The coasts of Fiji are wonderful and awe-inspiring - but that doesn't mean they're all the island has to offer.
