  • Best islands for cruising

    2011-12-28

When travelers think of cruising, they often envision heading to a gorgeous tropical island. However, some of these sunny destinations make for better cruises than others, so individuals may want to do a little research before embarking on their next seaward adventure.

Those who are looking for culture and tradition should head to an island in the Southern Caribbean, reports USA Today. Destinations like the Dominican Republic and Barbados boasts spice plantations and secluded beaches, which may be great to experience true island life.

If witnessing some incredible natural wonders and wildlife are a preference, islands such as Puerto Rico, St. Kitts and Antigua are ideal spots to see lush greenery, crystal clear oceans, sandy beaches and colorful tropical birds.

One unique and wonderful place to cruise is the Galapagos Islands. According to the local tourism site, this locale far off the coast of Ecuador has some incredible wildlife and breathtaking landscapes that may be viewed from the balcony of a ship. Guests can take small sailing yachts or a full-fledged cruise ship to these islands.
