Bathe in the natural hot springs of Shirahama, Japan

Vacationers looking for rest and relaxation would do well to visit the famous hot springs of Japan. While resorts have been built around various springs throughout the country, the hot springs at Shirahama offer travelers a unique experience.
The springs are located right on Japan's western coast, meaning bathers are frequently splashed by cool ocean waves. For a nominal fee, visitors can experience one of the top springs in Japan, which are referenced in ancient literature and texts for their healing properties.
A famous Japanese author once compiled a list, which roughly translated means "Three Views," listing the best places to see in Japan. This has spawned a number of "Top Three" lists. Shirahama is considered to be both one of the Three Great Hot Springs and Three Old Springs.
A vacation community has sprouted up by the site. The springs are right next to a beautiful white sand beach. Along the beach are a strip of hotels, much like the famed Waikiki beach in Hawaii, that were built in the 70s and 80s.
The outlying area of Nanki offers several resorts, where guests can enjoy golf, tennis, water sports, and other activities.
The springs aren't the only natural wonder here, either. Beautiful cliffs dot the seaside, and travelers should be sure to visit Senjokiki, which offers a great view of the Pacific Ocean.
