Austin attracts attention through its fresh atmosphere of food and fun

The idiosyncrasies of Austin, Texas, are what give this giant city its unique and exciting flavor. Tattooed musicians and business tycoons live side-by-side, which provides a diverse environment of activities and fun for travelers visiting this southern metropolis.
Cities are not usually known for their wildlife. In Austin though, tourists can experience an animal encounter at night that may be better than a zoo, reports Lonely Planet. Underneath the Congress Ave Bridge live hundreds of thousands of Mexican free-tailed bats that migrate to their area annually. Spectators of the species come to witness the bats during feeding time when the flying mammals are most active.
Other species of critters can be seen at the Barton Springs Pool downtown. Turtles dot the banks of this spring-fed body of water, and it is a popular place for locals and tourists to cool down during the hot summer months.
Since Austin is only a couple hours north of Mexico, the food here sometimes has a heavy south-of-the-border influence. A great example of this style can be found at Curra's Grill. Homemade tortillas are filled with shredded pork and beef and the sauces are created fresh, such as the green mole.
