Asia's top 10 food and wine destinations offer exciting culinary experiences
2011-12-07
TripAdvisor recently announced their Traveler's Choice 2011 Top 10 Food and Wine Destinations for Asia, which includes locations in Thailand, China, Japan, Singapore and Vietnam. The list features a variety of cities well worth a visit by any cuisine lover. These three cities from the list have some of the more unique offerings among Asian cuisine.
Number one on the list is Bangok, Thailand. Thai food typically features curry, coconut milk, mango, noodles and seafood extensively, combining sour, sweet and salty flavors with many dishes. In Bangkok, visitors can sample more exotic foods as well, such as insects or worms.
Singapore fell in the number four spot of the list. With many Malaysian and Chinese dishes served around the city, it can be difficult to pick out the local cuisine itself. Inspired by Indian, Indonesian, Filipino, Thai and even British cooking, the fusion-style culinary experience here can be quite unique.
Sixth in the top 10 is Hoi An, Vietnam. Vietnamese food heavily relies upon fish sauces, rice and soups in addition to a strong vegetarian menu due to the Buddhist background of the country. Hoi An, a port city, is an excellent place to sample the local cuisine, as well as experience fusion tastes created by the influx of other cultures in this trading area.
