A food festival on Prince Edward Island

When families are traveling on vacations, restaurants and dining experiences can become compromised if children are particularly small or picky eaters. But once the kids are out of the house, the refined palettes of "empty nesters" should take precedent on a vacation.
There are a number of great destinations for a food vacation, but one that's often overlooked is Prince Edward Island. This beautiful getaway off the coast of Canada features some beautiful colors in the fall in addition to its world-class cuisine.
In September, the "fall flavors" festival kicks into full gear on the island. For the entire month of September, every day is packed with various food-related activities. In addition, many of the restaurants on the island have special menus devoted exclusively to the event.
This year, the festival is hosted by Chef Michael Smith of Food Network fame. Smith will be on hand for several of the events throughout the month, like "Picnic in the Park" and "Farm Day in the City" on the 25th and 26th. Travelers also shouldn't miss the shellfish festival on the weekend of the 17th, where they can sample tasty chowder from the island's best chefs.
With the extra time afforded to empty nesters without the responsibilities of the kids anymore, travelers can spend the entire month in food paradise.
