  • Crisis Onboard Cruise Ship

Onboard what should have been a dream vacation with my wife, I experienced a life threatening medical situation that prompted our ship captain to change the course of the cruise ship to get me to the nearest hospital. After an initial examination at the local hospital in Mexico it was decided I should be airlifted to a hospital in Florida where I was in the ICU for several days. Once my doctors deemed me fit to travel, Travel Guard coordinated a medical escort to assist me on the flight home. Travel Guard took care of all the flight arrangements and ensured I got home safely. The people at Travel Guard are the best, I really can’t say enough about the professionalism and service I experienced.

  • Frequently Asked Questions

    • Why should I purchase a travel insurance plan for my vacation?
You've saved, you've waited, and now you're all set to travel. Preparing for your trip includes covering yourself for unfortunate occurrences that threaten to interfere with even your best-laid plans. By purchasing travel insurance, you can insure yourself for covered cancellation penalties, medical costs, as well as gain access to a wide range of traveler's assistance services.

    • How much does the insurance plan cost?
The insurance plan costs $15 per booking and and can be collected at the time of the reservation.

    • Are the benefits listed per insured or per booking?
All benefits are per booking. For example if the insured purchased travel insurance coverage for a trip costing a total of $1,000, this would be the maximum reimbursement allowable under trip cancellation or interruption for that booking.

    • Is there help while I’m traveling?
An added value offered in this insurance plan is the 24-Hour Emergency Assistance Services. Travel Guard is a leader in this field. With Travel Guard, you have access to the services of a highly trained, multi-lingual staff around the clock to assist you with emergencies such as: cash transfers, lost documents, baggage tracking medical or legal monitoring, physician referrals, flight rebooking, and roadside assistance. They are also equipped to respond in many unexpected circumstances. If an emergency should arise during your trip, call Travel Guard immediately and give the details of your problem or emergency.

    • Is there coverage due to pre-existing medical conditions?
Yes, while there is an exclusion for pre-existing medical conditions, the pre-existing medical condition exclusion is waived if you purchase the insurance with Initial Trip Payment and are medically able to travel at the time of purchase.  This waiver applies to the primary insured, traveling companions, family members and/or business partners.  Some exclusions may apply such as anxiety-related mental or nervous disorders and psychological disorders.  Please review the Certificate of Insurance for additional details.

    • What is pre-existing medical condition?
A pre-existing medical condition is one that was first diagnosed, had a change in diagnosis, or required a change in medication, during a certain time period immediately preceding and including the effective date of the travel insurance plan. For The Lodging Protection Plan, the time period is 60 days.

    • What is the definition of a Family Member?
The family member definition means the Insured’s or Traveling Companion’s spouse, Domestic Partner, Child, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, brother, sister, mother, father, grandparents, grandchild, step-child, stepbrother, step-sister, step-parents, parents-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, legal guardian, foster child, ward, or legal ward. Please consult the Certificate of Insurance for complete details.

    • Will my current homeowners, renters, credit card, or health insurance coverage cover me during my trip?
A travel insurance plan provides a wide range of travel benefits, which these plans may not offer. You should review your existing coverage. For example, some health insurance plans do not pay for covered medical expenses incurred outside of the United States (e.g., Medicare, certain HMO's, etc.). Please consult the Certificate of Insurance for complete details.

    • Will my vacation be covered if I cancel due to a hurricane?
Coverage due to named hurricanes is based on when you purchase your plan and the date the tropical storm is upgraded to a named hurricane. Please consult the Certificate of Insurance for more details. Coverage may vary based on state of residence. The plan also provides coverage if the property that you are staying at is inaccessible or uninhabitable within 30 days after the named hurricane causes the damage.

    • Is there coverage for Inclement Weather or other natural disasters?
Yes, the plan includes coverage for Inclement Weather causing delay or cancellation of travel; the insured's primary residence being made uninhabitable by natural disaster, vandalism or burglary; or destination being made uninhabitable by flood, tornado, earthquake, fire, wildfire, volcanic eruption or blizzard that was due to natural causes.
