Do travel insurance plans include trip cancellation or interruption coverage due to terrorism?
Yes. Travel insurance includes coverage due to terrorist incidents both within the United States and abroad. Please refer to the Description of Coverage for additional details.
How does trip cancellation and interruption apply?
It reimburses for forfeited, non-refundable, unused payments or deposits if the insured must cancel or interrupt their trip due to covered reasons. The interruption benefit may also include coverage for additional transportation expenses.
How much does a travel insurance plan cost?
The cost of most travel insurance plans are based on the trip cost and the age of the traveler.
Is the financial default of an airline, cruise line, or tour operator covered?
Many of Travel Guard's plans include coverage due to financial default if the insurance is purchased within 21 days of making the initial trip payment. (
Financial default is not covered for all suppliers.
What happens if a traveler must cancel their vacation?
A traveler could lose all prepaid, non-refundable deposits or payments. A travel insurance plan provides for reimbursement to the insured traveler for these expenses if cancelling their trip due to a covered reason.
What else is typically included in a Travel Guard insurance plan?
In addition to trip cancellation and interruption, most travel insurance plans include coverage for trip delay, missed connection, baggage and personal effects, baggage delay, medical expense, and emergency evacuation which includes repatriation of remains. 24 hour assistance services are included to help the traveler with things such as emergency medical assistance, lost baggage tracking, emergency cash transfer, emergency or last minute travel arrangements, assistance with replacing lost travel documents, and much more.
Why should a traveler buy travel insurance?
Travel insurance offers travelers coverage due to unforeseen problems from a cancelled flight due to an illness, or in some plans, an act of terrorism or the financial default of a travel supplier. If an illness, accident, or other covered unforeseen circumstance forces a traveler to cancel or interrupt their travel plans, they may have two potentially major financial losses – money invested in non-refundable prepaid travel expenses, and medical expenses that in some instances may not be covered by their personal health insurance.
